Artist Questions

What artist inspires you? Why?

The list of artists that inspire me is long and varied. There's not one particular artist that I would say inspires me the most, but I do have my favorites. I find inspiration in other artists for a number of reasons; some because of the way they handle paint, or how they treat their subject matter. I find inspiration in others for their compositions or creativity. I even find inspiration in the way some artists deeply dedicate themselves to bettering their work.

How do you come up with an idea for a new piece of artwork?

The idea for a new painting usually finds its beginnings in an experience I've had in the field, or sometimes it may come from a particular gesture of an animal I've photographed, or the light in a plein air painting I've done. Regardless, the idea always is born from my time spent outdoors.

Where is the most inspirational place you've visited lately?

The most inspirational place I've visited lately is Custer State Park in South Dakota.
