Lanford Monroe Memorial Artist-in-Residence Program: American Indian Beading and Drumming
|
June 30 10:00AM - 3:00PM Beading DemonstrationBison Gallery Helene Oldman and Wayland Bonatsie are
siblings who grew up on the Wind River Indian Reservation near Fort Washakie,
Wyoming, and have lived there all their lives. They learned their
beading skills from their mother and their aunts. Bonatsie learned the
drumming skills from his father. These skills have been passed down for
generations. The beaded designs stitched by Oldman and Bonatsie are
created freehand from their own original inspirations. Some of the
beadwork designs have been modified from traditional designs passed down
from ancestors. Their demonstrations and beadwork displays accompany
the current Karl Bodmer exhibitions.
See their full schedule online.
Generously sponsored by Ann & Don Alsted and Ann & John
Willott, and Cultural Council of Jackson Hole/Town County Arts for All.
